Save and Reopen a Project

Keep a project with your matter files, reopen it later, and start a revision from a saved copy.

A project file lets you reopen a finished exhibit set in ExhibitPrep with the PDFs and settings used to prepare it.

Which files should I keep?

  • PDF: your finished stamped document or combined exhibit bundle. Open and review it before filing or sharing.
  • ZIP: a folder of separate stamped PDFs. Extract the files to open and use them.
  • .exhibitprep project: the PDFs used for stamping, their labels and order, stamp settings and positions, and one selected finished copy. Open it in ExhibitPrep to resume work.

Keep your original source files as well. A project preserves the PDFs ExhibitPrep used, including converted image pages or placeholder pages. It does not preserve the original image, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, audio, or video files. See supported file types.

Save a project

  1. Download your finished PDF or ZIP. Check the saved files and confirm the download when prompted.
  2. In the Download Center, check Saved copies. If needed, open Choose another copy and select the version you want to keep.
  3. Choose Save project, then Save project file in the window that opens.
  4. Save the .exhibitprep file in your matter folder. On iPhone or iPad, choose Share → Save to Files if a preview opens. Choose I saved and checked it after checking that the project file is there.

Save project appears after a confirmed download when the selected copy has its editing details available. Some older copies lack those details; you can still preview and download their finished files.

The project contains the selected saved copy and its settings. It does not include later unsaved edits or every copy in your history. Save another project after completing a revision you want to keep.

Prepare a reviewer handoff

After confirming the finished download:

  1. Check Saved copies and select the exact version to share.
  2. Open Preparation record & reviewer handoff. Optionally add the review confirmations you have actually completed, your name, and any open questions.
  3. Choose Save record (PDF) or Save record (HTML). Both carry the same contents, including every file's output and source SHA-256; the PDF ends with a blank preparer block. Keep the file with the matching finished PDF or ZIP.
  4. Share the record and finished documents through your firm's approved channel. Add the .exhibitprep project only if the recipient needs the source PDFs and editing settings.

The record distinguishes automatic processing checks, your own confirmations, and items ExhibitPrep does not check. It lists source-to-output mapping, page ranges, available Bates settings, pages flagged for visual review, and the exact output's SHA-256 identifier. It is not a court filing receipt, authenticity certificate, electronic signature, or legal approval.

Keep your notes: the form is held only while the selected copy remains open. Switching copies, closing the page, or reopening the project clears the form. Save the preparation record before leaving. The record is a separate file and is not included automatically in a project. Changing the exhibits requires reviewing the new output and saving a new record.

If the record does not save: use Save or open preparation record when offered. Check your browser's downloads, or open it and use Print to save a PDF. Retry Save record (PDF) or Save record (HTML) if an error appears. This optional record does not change your finished exhibits or payment.

Reopen a project

  1. Open the ExhibitPrep workspace on the device where you want to work.
  2. Add the .exhibitprep file in the document upload area, using the file picker or drag and drop. Add the project on its own, separately from other documents.
  3. If asked, confirm that you want to open the project. Check that the expected exhibits are listed and preview the pages.
  4. If the purchase is not recognized, use purchase recovery or Billing & License. Recover the existing purchase before starting another checkout for the same paid copy.

Check the result: the expected exhibits, stamp settings, and finished copy are available. The workspace may return to review or to the Download Center, depending on the purchase information it can verify.

Opening a project creates a separate saved job. It does not replace an existing job. The file stays wherever you saved it; this is not cloud document storage. Recovering a purchase restores purchase access, not missing document files.

Make changes

If the project opens at Review your exhibit set, use the Back arrow to return to stamp setup.

In the Download Center:

  1. Under Saved copies, select the copy you want to use.
  2. Expand Edit from this copy and choose Restore as new draft. Confirm the choice.
  3. Make your changes, stamp the documents, and review the new result before downloading.

Your previous saved job and finished downloads remain available. Choosing an earlier copy alone changes what you preview and download; it does not undo your current edits.

Saving or reopening a project does not use another download credit or revision. Downloading a changed bundle still follows the revision allowance and deadline shown for your purchase. See download recovery for interrupted saves or payment questions.

If the project will not reopen

  1. Select the .exhibitprep file that ExhibitPrep saved. Do not extract it or rename a regular ZIP or PDF to .exhibitprep.
  2. If you copied or emailed the project, check that the transfer finished. Try the original saved project file if it is still available.
  3. Read the error message. If ExhibitPrep cannot verify the project, it will not use unverified files. Do not edit the project's contents to try to bypass the check.
  4. Keep the project and any finished PDFs and original source files. If the original workspace still opens, try saving the selected project again. Otherwise, use the issue-report form below and include the exact error wording before starting over.

Keep your finished PDFs available while you resolve the project problem; a project-import failure does not change those separate files.
