How to Combine Multiple Exhibits Into One PDF
ExhibitPrep's built-in combine mode stamps each exhibit with its sequential label, then merges all exhibits into a single PDF — with a table of contents, slipsheet separators, and automatic bookmarks — in one download. No additional software required.
- ExhibitPrep combines multiple exhibit PDFs into a single merged file with sequential labels (A, B, C or 1, 2, 3) applied to each document.
- The combined PDF automatically includes PDF bookmarks so viewers can jump directly to any exhibit in Adobe Reader or any PDF viewer.
- An optional table of contents page lists every exhibit by label and page number and is inserted at the front of the combined PDF.
- Slipsheet separator pages — labeled with the exhibit number or letter — can be inserted between each exhibit to match court expectations.
- Exhibits are combined in the order shown in ExhibitPrep's exhibit list; drag rows to reorder before downloading.
- There is no hard limit on the number of exhibits that can be combined — practical limits depend on browser memory; 50–100 exhibits process reliably.
- The combine feature works alongside batch stamping — all exhibits are stamped and merged in a single download operation.
- No files are uploaded to a server — all stamping and merging happens in your browser, keeping all exhibit content private.

5-Step Process for Combining Multiple Exhibits
Upload All Exhibits
Click "Upload Files" and select every exhibit PDF you want to combine. You can drag and drop multiple files at once into the upload area. ExhibitPrep lists them in the order they were added. Before stamping, drag rows in the list to set the correct order — labels are assigned in list order, not filename order.
Stamp Each Exhibit With Sequential Labels
Select a stamp template from the configurator. Choose "Plaintiff's Exhibit" for numbered labels (1, 2, 3, …) or "Defendant's Exhibit" for lettered labels (A, B, C, …). The labels increment automatically: the first document gets Exhibit A, the second gets Exhibit B, and so on. No manual configuration is needed for each file.
Enable Combine Mode
In the export settings, check "Combine exhibits into single PDF." This activates combine mode, which will merge all stamped exhibits in sequence. At this point you can also reorder exhibits one final time by dragging the rows — labels will update to match the new order.
Add a Table of Contents and Slipsheets (Optional)
Enable "Include table of contents" to add a TOC page at the front of the combined PDF. Each entry in the TOC lists the exhibit label, a description (if you entered one), and the page number. Enable "Add slipsheets" to insert a labeled separator page before each exhibit. Both options can be used together for professional trial binder formatting.
Download the Combined PDF
Click "Download Combined PDF." ExhibitPrep stamps each exhibit in sequence, merges them in the order shown, adds the TOC at the front and slipsheets between exhibits, and inserts PDF bookmarks pointing to the start of each exhibit. The resulting single PDF is ready for e-filing, printing, or emailing to opposing counsel.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the order of exhibits in the combined PDF matter?
Yes. The combined PDF assembles exhibits in the order shown in ExhibitPrep's exhibit list. Before stamping, drag rows in the list to set the correct order — for example, you may want to group medical records together or organize exhibits chronologically. The exhibit labels (A, B, C or 1, 2, 3) are assigned in the order the documents appear in the list, not alphabetically by filename.
Can I add slipsheets between exhibits in the combined PDF?
Yes. ExhibitPrep automatically generates slipsheet separator pages when combining exhibits. Each slipsheet displays the exhibit label (e.g., "Exhibit A" or "Exhibit 1") and can optionally include the exhibit title you enter. Slipsheets give judges, opposing counsel, and witnesses a clear visual break between exhibits and are required or preferred by some courts and arbitration forums. Enable the option in the combine settings before downloading.
Does the combined PDF create bookmarks for each exhibit?
Yes. When combining exhibits, ExhibitPrep automatically creates PDF bookmarks (also called an outline or navigation panel) for each exhibit. In Adobe Reader or any PDF viewer, clicking a bookmark in the left panel jumps directly to that exhibit. This is especially useful for large combined PDFs with many exhibits, as it allows judges and counsel to navigate without scrolling through hundreds of pages.
Is there a limit on how many exhibits I can combine?
ExhibitPrep does not impose a hard limit on the number of exhibits you can combine. In practice, the limit is determined by your browser's available memory — very large batches (100+ exhibits totaling several hundred megabytes) may be slow or may require a device with at least 8 GB of RAM. For trial preparation with 50 or more exhibits, splitting into multiple combined PDFs by exhibit category (e.g., one PDF for medical records, one for communications) can also keep file sizes within e-filing caps.
